Research and editorial principles
Explicit limits
Missing publication is not zero, 1990 has no national count, and unlike measures stay separate.
No identity claims
A surname is not used to infer ancestry, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, or personal identity.
The site does not publish unsupported surname meanings, etymologies, related-name claims, causal explanations, or trend labels.
Research cutoff and updates
The active research cutoff is August 4, 2026. The current Census inputs and generated snapshot are locked by source metadata and hashes. Updates are not promised on a fixed schedule; any future source or data revision must repeat the documented validation and review process.
